If You Need Surgery

No one want to have surgery but let’s face it most of us will need some type of procedure during his/her lifetime. Some of you will need a procedure done that can be done as a “same day surgery”. This simply means you can have a surgical procedure done and go home the same day.

Outpatient Services East (OSE) is a multi-specialty surgery center where many same day surgeries are done. The facility has grown over the years from 6,000 square feet and a staff of 13 to around 32,000 square feet with over 90 staff members. OSE has a proven record of providing quality care while saving cost.

The vision of ODS is to be the leader in Ambulatory Surgery Centers by always providing their customers with innovative and responsive services to deliver the highest quality healthcare in an ethical and cost effective manner. The management is active in national organizations and they strive to uphold these goals.

The preference of Outpatient Services East by patients, employers, third party payors and physicians is based on its overall excellence. OSE was the first freestanding surgery center in Alabama to be accredited by the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations and has successfully maintained this accreditation to date. OSE compares to, and meets, national benchmarks on patient safety, quality of care and cost savings.

If you chose to have your procedure done at OSE the staff wants to do all they can to make your time there as easy as possible. One thing you will be ask to do is pre-register. One reason for this is to enable the staff to complete your information, obtain needed medical tests, complete a medical history, and prepare you for your procedure.  You can pre-register online by following the link after viewing the online forms.  If you chose not pre-registered online, a patient representative will call you prior to your surgery to pre-register you by phone.

If you pre-register(once you have done so) please go to the “Your Surgery” tab to read important information about your visit with us. You will find information on topics such as advance directives. (Formal advance directives are documents that state your choices for health care.  Advance directives allow you to make known your wishes regarding the medical care you do or do not want to receive if you become too sick to speak for yourself.)

Procedures in an ambulatory care setting are generally performed to enhance or improve the patient’s quality of life; therefore, it is our policy that if you suffer a cardiac or respiratory arrest or other life-threatening situation, resuscitative measures will be initiated and you will be transferred to a hospital. At the hospital, further treatments or withdrawal of treatment measures will be exercised in accordance with your Advance Directive.

Outpatient Services East respects your right to make decisions regarding your medical care. If you present an advance directive at the time of your admission, a copy will be made and become a part of your medical record and will be transferred with you to a hospital if a higher level of care should be required. If you disagree with this policy, please address this issue with your physician prior to your procedure.
